Lieksa is a town and municipality of Finland.
It is located in the province of Eastern Finland and is part of the North Karelia region. The municipality has a population of 12,790 (31 December 2009)[2] and covers an area of 4,067.68 square kilometres (1,570.54 sq mi) of which 649.19 km2 (250.65 sq mi) is water.[1]population density is 3.74 inhabitants per square kilometre (9.7 /sq mi). The town of Lieksa was established in 1973 when the Market town of Lieksa and the Municipality of Pielisjärvi were consolidated.
